Pique Polo Shirt Manufacturer — Collar That Holds
A polo's collar is the whole garment. A collar that collapses or curls after two washes turns a premium polo into a work shirt, and no amount of good fabric rescues it. The fix is structural: the collar has to be knitted or fused as its own piece with the right interlining, cut on a stable grain, and top-stitched so it sits flat. We specify the collar construction separately from the body because it is the single largest driver of how the finished polo will be judged.
Fabric weight and construction options
| Weight / type | Material | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| 180–200 gsm | Single pique, combed cotton | Summer polos, promotional and casual programmes |
| 200–230 gsm | Pique with 5% elastane | Better recovery, less distortion through the placket |
| 230–260 gsm | Heavy pique or double pique | Premium corporate and uniform polos |
| Cotton–poly | 65/35 pique | Lower shrinkage, colour retention for uniform programmes |
| Birdseye / waffle | Textured knit | Where a sold polo programme wants a point of difference |
Available decoration methods
| Method | Specification | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Embroidery | Up to 12 colours | The default branding route for polos; reads well on pique texture |
| Contrast tipping | Collar and cuff rib | A classic accent; needs matched shrinkage on the trim |
| Screen printing | 1–6 colours | Works on the body; less crisp over a heavy pique texture |
| Applique / patch | Woven or leather patch | Premium branding on corporate and sports polos |
| Contrast placket | Woven or jersey | A design accent that also reinforces the placket edge |
