Heavyweight Hoodie Manufacturer — 400–480 gsm
A heavyweight hoodie is a different product from a standard one, and it has to be engineered that way. At 400–480 gsm the fabric is dense enough that it no longer drapes — it holds a shape off the body, which is exactly what the customer is paying for. But that weight also puts load on every seam, so construction has to keep up: heavier thread, reinforced shoulder and armhole seams, and a hood that can stand without collapsing. A heavy hoodie on light construction tears at the seams, not the fabric.
Fabric weight and construction options
| Weight / type | Material | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| 400 gsm | Brushed-back fleece, cotton-rich | Entry heavyweight with a soft inner face |
| 420–440 gsm | Dense loop-back or fleece | The standard streetwear heavyweight |
| 450–480 gsm | Ultra-dense fleece | Maximum structure; premium positioning |
| Garment-dyed | 400–450 gsm | Faded, vintage hand-feel at heavyweight |
| Cotton–poly | 400 gsm 65/35 | Lower shrinkage, lower cost, still substantial |
Available decoration methods
| Method | Specification | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Chenille patch | Sewn, varsity style | Carries the weight visually; a streetwear signature |
| Embroidery | High stitch counts supported | The dense body holds large chest and back embroidery |
| Puff print | Raised 3D logo | Holds dimension on a heavy face better than any other fabric |
| Applique | Sewn fabric letters | Common on heavyweight college and varsity programmes |
| Screen printing | Body panel | Needs a low-bleed ink and an adhesion test on dense fleece |
